To see what others thought of the Cabela's edition, I asked a few fellow hunters to share some of their comments. Here's what they had to say:
Steve Stevens has been training and breeding retrievers for the past 38 years. He's an avid hunter, an AKC Hunt Test judge and a former competitor in the Master Nationals and Super Retriver Series.
"I've seen these new tailgate steps before, and I really like it. It makes it really simple to get and out of the bed. I have a 2002 Ford with the Lariat package and have never owned anything but Ford vehicles. I have three diesels right now. Two of mine are set-up with dog kennels.
"The seats on this new F250 are really great, I really like the headroom and interior features. I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall and this truck gives me lots of room inside. This truck is similar to mine with leather seats. I don't cover them when I'm in the field with the dogs. I like the feel of the leather.
"I'm a hunter and the Cabela's branding is nice. I buy everything from Cabela's, especially their outdoor clothing".
Wendy Pennington has competed in AKC Obience, Agility and Field Trails event circuit for 24 years. She has also competed in the pretigious Master Nationals and Super Retrivers Series. Wendy hunts mostly pheasant and duck.
"I like the 30-gallon fuel tank and the tailgate step on this truck. When you're trying to get into the bed of a tall truck, it's difficult for us vertically challenged folks. I really liked the lockable gun case too.
"I think the Cabela's edition will hold up to the hunting and dog handling I do. But this is an expensive truck and I don't think I'd pay more just for the Cabela's name attached to it. I shop at Cabela's for most
of my gear, but I don't like them enough to pay extra for their logo. I need to honest.
"One of the first things I'd do is put a camper shell on it because I want a cover for my dogs when I'm transporting them to the field. I think amenities like the leather seats and all the little compartments are
good features to have.
"When you're either training dogs or hunting you're not always on the best roads, so in that respect this F250 is great in the comfort department. And I really like the diesel engine. Even with the price for diesel you are still getting better mileage than with gas. It it were offered in bio-diesel, I'd prefer it.
"I like Ford trucks. I have one with 370,00 miles on the engine and it is still running great".
Richard Cole is a professional dog trainer, a seasoned hunter and guide. He participates in AKC Hunt Tests.
"I think the extended bed is not for me. They are practical for certain people, but only it if it's durable.
I really liked the tailgate step. As a hunter it's a nice feature to have when you're carrying gear.
"The gun case inside is very nice. It's hidden and lockable. I liked to have my guns put away where no one sees them when I'm in the field. I buy all my hunting gear from Cabela's but I wouldn't pay for their name on the side.
"I'm a Chevy man, but I really think this new F250 has a lot more leg and headroom than my truck. The only thing missing is a DVD screen for the backseat passengers. I like the layout of the center floor console, the instrument cluster and navigation system. Everything is easy to read
"I put a million miles on Chevy, but I really love the towing capacity of this new Ford. I have a one-ton
with only 11,000 pounds towing capacity. I would get the long-bed for what I do".
