Duramax Diesel Performance Intake - Keeping Your Cool

 The factory intake system...  The factory intake system works extremely well but can be improved upon to see some real performance gains by adding a sealed aftermarket intake system.  Replacing the factory intake...  Replacing the factory intake with an aftermarket unit begins by loosening the clamps on the intake duct.  The intake duct is easily...  The intake duct is easily removed from the engine.  Unplug the MAF sensor, pull...  Unplug the MAF sensor, pull up on the factory air filter box, and it too comes out of the engine compartment.  Underneath the filter box...  Underneath the filter box is this plate that is easily removed to provide
additional space for a larger filter box and an air inlet duct.  Here you can see the space...  Here you can see the space that will be used to pull in additional cool air that is protected from engine heat and auxiliary radiator fan airflow.  The Volant intake on the left...  The Volant intake on the left uses a larger filter box and filter. You can also see how much smoother the bends are in the Volant intake duct compared to the factory unit.  Volant also gathers air from...  Volant also gathers air from the side of the fender and uses a rubber seal around the filter box to seal out engine heat.  The large, smooth Volant intake...  The large, smooth Volant intake duct attaches to the filter box with the provided screws that secure it in place.  The assembled unit fits back...  The assembled unit fits back into the factory location.  Here you can see how the bottom...  Here you can see how the bottom of the Volant filter box is bolted to the fender. Note the bottom duct that gathers cold air from the underside of the engine compartment.  Stainless steel clamps secure...  Stainless steel clamps secure the silicone sleeves to the intake duct and won't be affected by heat or moisture.  The MAF sensor is unbolted...  The MAF sensor is unbolted from the factory intake duct and is transferred to the Volant high-flow duct with a new grommet seal.  Simple sheetmetal screws secure...  Simple sheetmetal screws secure the MAF sensor to the Volant duct and securely hold it in place.  Volant's ProGuard-7 filter...  Volant's ProGuard-7 filter flows more air, and with seven layers of cotton/gauze, it also filters out small dirt particles for added protection.  The finished installation...  The finished installation includes the filter box cover that seals and protects the filter element from moisture, dirt and heat.
